- Abstract:
- Please join the Harriman Institute and the Barnard College Slavic Department for a moderated discussion and Q&A with the popular Russian singer, songwriter, and content-creator Liza Monetochka. Following the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Liza publicly expressed her anti-war stance, left Russia, and gave a series of benefit concerts in Europe directing the revenue to Ukrainian humanitarian funds. In the conversation, we will talk about Russian music as a platform for social and political commentary and a vehicle for community building bringing together anti-war Russophone audiences outside of Russia. Liza will sing a few songs and answer questions about the experience of coming of age, relocation, writing music, and finding strength to do creative work in a moment of crisis. The event is specifically intended for younger students who are unable to attend Monetochka’s concert in NYC because of the 21+ age restriction. Teenagers and younger students (21-) will get priority seating and will be given priority to ask questions. The remaining seats will be offered to the general public.
