Abstract
Following a decade of devastating conflicts, the countries of South Eastern Europe have now intensified their efforts to reform the security sector, foster security cooperation in the region and move more swiftly towards the membership in Euro-Atlantic integrations. Beyond any doubt, to succeed in these efforts, the whole region will have to develop and heavily rely upon a new generation of civilian security and defence experts.
DCAF's Young Faces Conference series, which was introduced in 2002 in cooperation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies from London, represents the Centre's key long-term contribution to the development of security and defence expertise in South Eastern Europe. The Young Faces Conferences, which take place once each year, are designed to bring together young scholars, government officials, NGO activists and journalists for a discussion on the fundamental concepts and issues in the field of security sector reform and their potential implications on the region.
