Private Equity Investment in Hungary: the Competitive Edge as a Force for Innovation
Eugene Spiro
October 1997
Abstract
The Institute for EastWest Studies has over the past year been providing advice and assistance to the Hungarian Ministry of Finance as the latter prepares a law on venture capital investments. The purpose of the law is to provide incentives which would, hopefully, contribute to the development of the Hungarian venture capital industry, with emphasis on nurturing the Hungarian equity market. As privatization in Hungary draws to a close and simultaneously the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship gain increasing recognition as key contributors to economic growth, the Institute is pleased to support the Ministry's efforts and attention to these matters.
