Communitarianism as the Official Politics of "Middle Earth"

Abstract
El texto que se presenta fue escrito por el autor para el curso sobre “Pensamiento posmoderno” bajo la temática de “Modernidad a prueba: desafíos de la ética y de la política”. En él se analizan algunas de las referencias filosófico-políticas de El señor de los anillos, obra de gran popularidad a finales del siglo XX (tanto en versión literaria como cinematográfica) y que, sin embargo, conserva muchos rasgos de las epopeyas y leyendas antiguas como la gesta de Beowulf. Se trata de formular los términos de un debate central en la teoría política contemporánea indagando en las representaciones sobre el comunitarismo y el liberalismo en la mencionada obra.
Communitarianism as the Official Politics of “Middle Earth” In this article, I analyze some political and philosophical references taken from the movie, The Lord of the Rings. This production was immensely popular at the end of the twentieth century (from a literary perspective as well as from a cinematography viewpoint) however it maintains many characteristics of epic poems and ancient legends such as the expressions of Beowulf. The article aims to establish the terms of a central debate in contemporary political theory by examining the representation of communitarianism and liberalism portrayed in J.R. Tolkien´s work.
