Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. CIAO publishes a wide range of scholarship from 1991 onward. The types of material found on CIAO are:
The Working Papers section of CIAO includes papers submitted for publication in refereed journals, transcripts and summaries from international affairs conferences, and chapters intended for publication in proceedings volumes.
Journals section houses articles or abstracts culled from some of the most important journals in international affairs.
Books on CIAO include full-text volumes and books with selected chapters.
Policy Briefs are short, topical essays and position papers from a range of contributing institutions.
Economic Indicators are statistics which indicates current economic growth rates. These can be found in the Policy Brief directory.
Case Studies. Written by leading scholars in international affairs, the case studies illustrate key concepts and provide historical background on crucial episodes in international affairs.
Reference and Course material
Coursepacks. Course packs contain readings and links to authoritative outside sources on key issues and conflicts that appear in foreign policy and international relations courses.
Syllabi. A collection of syllabi pulled together from introductory courses taught in universities and colleges is also available from the coursepack section.
The CIAO Atlas includes data from the CIA factbook, maps from the CIA Factbook and from Worldatlas.com. Selected country profiles are augmented with histories originally published by the Library of Congress. Annual reports on selected countries in Europe and Central Asia are provided by CIAO’s partner, Transitions Online.
In addition to the materials about these countries, the Atlas includes a comparison tool. The comparison tool allows researchers to view differences in key indicators for countries around the world. To reach the comparison tool, click on the link in the upper right hand corner of the atlas pages.
